I wish we could say that we were vacationing in the French Riviera (although we did make a coveted appearance in Barbados in December) or that we were overloaded with commissions this year (okay, maybe we were doing that, too), but how could we forsake our FAVORITE FANS!?!?!?!? Look who came back? Not just us, but our dearest foster ever, #23, Darby!!!!

We've enjoyed her company all this last year when she came back to us unexpectedly last Christmas, along with our fine recessionary times, and feel terrible that we haven't included you in our delight (Darby, I mean, not the economy). To explain, I had to temporarily set the creative artistry aside on canvas last year and devote my talent to our rescue group. We feel your pain; we've suffered through the same, but back in business! Let's start stimulating this economy with spending and laughter! My two favorite things.... Our dear, fearless leader and my favorite husband, Ben, has finally resurrected www.mugatusdogs.blogspot.com and I vow to do the same with my own blog. Princess and I are hard at work, cultivating a new "Book", in honor of Darby, and developing a new series ...."Beach Dogs". More to come!

Thanks for your endless love, loyalty, and support, I think you'll find our work bigger and better than ever! Our Darby has settled into life as though she never left us, Gizmo LOVES the dogs now, even sleeps on them (!!!!!), and we are shamelessly "OVER THE MOON" with our six children. The GPA board is also bigger and better than ever: www.fastfriends.org. Happy times.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/SYVUEkOG57I/AAAAAAAAAXk/RrTnHLbjHQc/s320/IMG_6403.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297732974090315698" />

Sniff. All rights reserved.

Meet Lily and Louie, my first "official" commission, expressly in time for the holidays! These two precious Japanese Chins belong to our fellow animal lover and multiple award winning novelist, Charlie Valentine. She is the author of this amazing novel about four seemingly unrelated, yet fated families, "Better Days Ahead"....well, I won't give away too much, go visit her site at: www.charlievalentinebooks.com and see for yourself what an accomplished talent she is. Better yet, buy her book! I'm ashamed to admit, my schedule doesn't allow for a lot of personal reading time, besides my coveted monthly Martha Stewart subscription (don't judge me), but I made an exception and quickly found myself through her book in a couple of nights; I couldn't put it down. It is the first of a trilogy and has achieved many accolades. The second novel is close to publication, so be on the lookout for it in 2008. Charlie also happens to be the mom of my greatest and dearest fans, the Davidson's (see, "The Davidson Four"). If not for the persistance and loyalty of my beloved friends, The Exalted Pet would not be recognized today. This commission was a true honor. Of course, "Lily and Louie" is a surprise, so keep it on the down-low. At least, until the 25th. I only hope to meet her own standards of excellence as a fellow artist.

Not knowing these two darlings personally, I decided to go with my initial premonition and this was the result. Innocent, simple, and dangerous! Jeez, if there's anything that proves greater than cryptonite to me, it's a watercolor wash. Of course, I had to add my own personal style to it and "bulk it up" a bit, with hints of raised detail in the acrylic medium. It's in those eyes, I just can't resist, every Exalted Pet has them! A key to the soul....
The nameplate in red depicts their names and the gold script is in Chinese (I know, a bit of a contradiciton, but the characters were just so pretty) and it reads, "Sweethearts". Aren't they, tho? Even my own Exalted Pets didn't want to have them for lunch...too cute! They did try to lick the painting, tho....

Of course, since Tommy and Karri are our greyhound compadres, 25% of the sale will be donated towards GPA. GPA, you ask? Well, read the blog to find out! What are you waiting for? Better yet, click on the GPA post in this blog to learn more or visit www.fastfriends.org to find out about our "other purpose". What a fine holiday it will be for the hounds, thanks for assisting these fine angels!

Enjoy and thanks always for visiting and supporting our cause! Happy holidays to you and yours!

Our Little Maguai....

Happy Thanksgiving! So sorry for the short hiatus, Princess and I have been busy painting away with our latest series, which we shall unveil in our next post-stay tuned! It's going to be a doozy, so grab your hankies, folks.

Prior to our swansong, we decided our Exalted Pet Collection would not be complete without an honor to our newest addition, Gizmo:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/R0oTe5TFkzI/AAAAAAAAAMc/N6MLGWZ7AZ8/s320/IMG_5049.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136939746467353394" />
"Don't Feed Him After Midnight", 12" x 16" Acrylic on Canvas, by Natalie Hirshman.

As you may already know, our little 15 year old Maguai came into our lives after we learned he had been shamefully abandoned by his owner at our vet. Following several months of trying to find him a new home and time running dangerously short, well, we knew what had to be done. Gizmo came home to us in June. Since then, he has proven to be quite a master of disguise. Tiny and sweet, Gizmo spends most of his time relaxing with his thoughts and meditates in the guestroom, perched in the sunshine on his favorite queen-sized throne. Little did we know his mastery of the "Kung-fu". Our little Buddah has been blessed with exceptionally large feet for his 6-pound frame and in an instant, can propel himself basically everywhere, defying the laws of grav-i-teh. And then, in an instant, back to slumber. He can also serve a roundhouse kick mid-air that gives Chuck Norris a run for his money...oh, no, do not underestimate our little karate master because of his age. We believe he and Champ may have been kindred spirits in another lifetime. Or, studied at the same school in Tibet...with Bruce Lee.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/R0oT8ZTFk0I/AAAAAAAAAMk/KJL4f1qfXQc/s320/IMG_4096.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136940253273494338" />
Gizmo does bless us with his presence downstairs once in a while, but the canine chaos down below tends to disturb his "Chi", so he tends to observe his minions from the sanctity of the stairs, unless it's dinnertime. If he must brave the great unknown (usually at feeding time), he throws several stunning mind-bullets at the unassuming hounds, rendering them immobile, while he traverses through the canine jungleswamp of stuffies. A sight to behold.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/R0oW1JTFk1I/AAAAAAAAAMs/cJ5gXkbGLK4/s320/IMG_4012.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136943427254326098" />
So, why depict our little Gizmo in such a way as shown above? Well, I wanted something punchy, something vibrant and strong, all traits which exemplify this silver fox underneath his perfectly zen demeanor. And, it's fun. We are so thankful for this little man to run into our lives and he has acclimated very nicely. Even blesses us with a cuddle and purr once in a while. Although, we understand if he upped that purr to 11, it could easily break the sound barrier.

And, we do NOT feed him after midnight. Who knows what we'd find out about him then.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/R0oTe5TFkzI/AAAAAAAAAMc/N6MLGWZ7AZ8/s320/IMG_5049.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136939746467353394" />

Now, a Short Blurb About My Purpose (the other one).....

So, wondering why I'm so relentless about supporting that cryptic GPA-CA, OC/GLA thing? Well, that's short for Greyhound Pets of America, California Chapter, Orange County/Greater Los Angeles. These fine spirits changed my life four years ago, when I first adopted my first greyhound, Hansel, and then Derek, and the multiple fosters since. Please visit them at www.fastfriends.org as soon as you can. Like many non-profit rescues, they make the business of survival and perserverance a true art form. I have to give a shout out about what we do, because it's a true labor of unconditional love (and the most rewarding job on the planet). Those of you who are involved in any rescue of any kind, know exactly where I'm coming from
here. The gift of volunteerism is priceless.

Here's a short overview of what we do; the following pictures depict a usual Retirement Day, the day we collect our future children from their former jobs and guide them into their forever homes.

We are a 501-C non-profit, spearheaded by the devotion of the unparalleled McRorie's and committment of our loyal volunteers. While we excitedly await their arrival in LaHabra, CA, several hours north, we examine the hounds thoroughly. You should hear the sounds of wagging tails and roos coming from the trailer when they're first making their appearance known upon their arrival, it brings the best of us to childlike tears. Sniff.

From there, we examine our hounds from head to toe from minor, superficial issues like treating fleas and ticks (guess what my job is....yeah), skin conditions, cuts, and just plain confusion to what's going on, to more major maladies such as, broken legs and limps. Don't be sad, we have a super protocol in place and we don't turn one dog away. We've had worse, but we've had way more than that arrive in perfect health. As with my art, no challenge is too much for us. Tenacious bunch, we are.

Here are a couple of newbies to enlarge your heart three sizes too big:

Step off, "Uma Pemmaraju", that's MY MAN.... That's Princess doing what she loves best....hazing the hounds. Let me give credit where credit is due, however. She's only done this a handful of times, when called upon. Ricky, my friend Marcia's kitty, is really our house Royalty, whom for years has valiantly filled this position with expert results. Kirby and Skeeter, two of the most skilled (and amorous) Rat Terriers, serve as the small dog decoys. Once observed, we can safely understand which dogs are cat friendly and which consider our test-patients, "SECOND LUNCH!"

When the show comes to an end, we carefully assign each dog to their respective foster home. Fosters are really our most important job; they are responsible for taking the dog to the vet for it's spay/neuter, rabies, and full dental, as well as any additional medical additions which require attention. They are also responsible for teaching the hound basic domestic and residential skills, but that's nothing. Most difficult of all, they have to let them go, once the dogs have chosen their adopter. Ugh. The first time or ten, my husband was sure he had to take ME to the vet, for a common condition referred to as "Heartbreak".

Want one? Yes, of course you do! But, there are special requirements to consider in order to fully respect this special hound. Want more info about it? Check out the website: http://www.fastfriends.org/.

This is what could await you:

No, for the record, fosters are not allowed on the furniture. Can you really say "No" to THIS?

And hey, every rescue is important. My cats came from the OC shelter in Orange, CA and Gizmo came from my local vet, abandoned. I'm sure you can find a stellar rescue of any kind to suit your fancy in your local area. But, greyhounds are cool. Real cool.

I would say that's all I'll say about that, but I won't! It's important. Especially to those darling little faces. They'll pay you back one hundred fold for the rest of their lives. xoxoxoxo.

Little Buddhah.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYhq1ToTaI/AAAAAAAAAIk/5U_I4rus0Yg/s400/IMG_4753.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108807847046040994" />
"Little Buddha", Acrylic and Gold Leaf on canvas, 12"x16", by Natalie Hirshman. Copyright 2007.

As much as I love my kids, I've been itching to finish my "Piece de Resistance" for some time now. I know, it's crazy, it's not my own child (!), but it is a very special canine that I had the honor of meeting two years ago. There was something purely unique and amazing about this little Casanova, and he went by the magnanimous name of, "Champ". Pushing 16 years old, little did I realize what a "Champ" he was (this is a family friendly site, however, so we can't really show you what a "Champ" he really was). He definitely preceded his reputation. Get a load of this guy:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYh4VToTbI/AAAAAAAAAIs/QMidhzmcBGU/s320/CIMG1062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108808078974274994" />
I was speechless. Once I collected my composure, but still not daring to make direct eye contact with something so ethereal, I dubbed him, "our Little Buddha". My dear friend Mel inherited him from her amazing mom. It's like gazing at Confucious, or at least, Baxter, from "Anchorman". I estimate his language skills at 16 unique tongues, at least. I hear on the streets, though, that this is a commong trait amongst the "Chi-Poos".
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYiM1ToTcI/AAAAAAAAAI0/-TRUNtWxXyY/s320/IMG_4754.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108808431161593282" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYiY1ToTdI/AAAAAAAAAI8/e9DwNIqXDiw/s320/IMG_4755.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108808637320023506" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYil1ToTeI/AAAAAAAAAJE/5GyKhXIOd0I/s320/IMG_4756.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108808860658322914" />
The mendhi was added by me, signifying longevity. My name is Buckley and I get to be the first guest blogger ever on Exalted Pets! How cool is that? Hansel and Derek are my best friends in the whole wide world. Besides my mom, that is. I'm also called the "White Honker", which happened to be my aptly named racing name. You can look me up on www.greyhound-data.com for my history, although I must warn you, I've always been more of a lover than a racer. I chose my mom two years ago at the GPA Picnic in June of 2005 (that's www.fastfriends.org just in case my auntie Nat hasn't mentioned it already). She was the prettiest lady I had ever seen. So, I amped up my "cute factor" and I had her from "roo". My life has been so great ever since, I even got to go to Josemitee (that might be pronounced with a "soft" J, like "Yogging") with my new family right after I was adopted! Nature is so cool. I love long walks with my mom everyday, visiting my grandparents, butterflies, and doggie playdates with my best friends! They're my favorite, because they just....understand me. That is, until Auntie Natalie comes outside with the nail clippers, that is....shudder. It's really her only downfall, you know, that whole "grooming" obsession, but I'm getting used to it. I do like to fit in.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYRulToTZI/AAAAAAAAAIc/eAXlWK4B0_U/s200/Buckley1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108790319284506002" />
This is my headshot for Mugatusdogs.blogspot.com. It's my best "LeTigre" pose. Does it make me look like I can read good?

Well, you could understand my surprise when I got to spend a long weekend with my best friends and my mom was surprised with a painting of....ME! OMG! Can you believe it? They like me, they really, really like me! It's so great, it has all of my favorite things in the whole wide world in it! Well, except for peanut butter, but how did they know? My mom and my auntie always call me an "old soul". I'm not sure what that means, because I'm only 5 years young, but I guess that means that I love the stars, the clouds, the nature...and butterflies. Come along with me and take a gander, will you?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYQkFToTXI/AAAAAAAAAIM/2RMDMAbPja4/s400/IMG_4657.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108789039384251762" />
"Exalted Buckley", Acrylic on canvas, 16x24, by Natalie Hirshman. I catch my mom staring at my painting all day long, just like I do. I can't tell you how amazing this "love" thing feels. You should have one, too; a painting AND a greyhound! Contact my auntie Nat for a consult! And it's not because she's giving me peanut butter treats for saying that either. Well, maybe a little.

Here's my favorite picture with my mommy, Charity. I love her more than peanut butter.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuYRUlToTYI/AAAAAAAAAIU/SCTsOX_jA2Y/s320/Buckley2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108789872607907202" />

Thanks for looking and come back soon!
Cheers, fans! Love, Buckley.

**Editors Note** We don't really, really like you, Buckster. We really, really love you. Here's to the rest of your life, Exalted Pet! This rotund ball of fluff is my mom's Exalted Pet. She was rescued following the loss of our family cat's, the infamous Charlie and Missy, who survived to a respectable 19 years young. This was a tough blow to all of us, especially my mom, but they crossed that Rainbow Bridge valiently, and they look after her every day. Lucy's prior place of residence was at CAT (Cat Adoption Team) in Oregon. She was in the Long Term ward for 8 long months, because of her age and a slight "anger management" issue. In fact, we lovingly dub her, "Lucy-fur". Her past has proven to be a tough one, but my mom saw all through that. And off she went to her forever home in all her cranky glory, unjudged, and unconditionally loved. At last, the shrew had been tamed.

No, Lucy is a wonderful cat, she's just very particular in her old age. She enjoys her routine, which also happens to coincide with her mommy's, and quiet time alone in the evenings. But, by no means, show her a brush. You will be very, very sorry.

I was running a little late with a birthday gift for my mom this year, since I was falling behind in Lucy's portrait a bit. It proved to be somewhat of a challenge, a mix of complexity and subject matter. I had to get her just right. When I channeled Lucy on this challenge, she did express to me that this is how she'd like to be immortalized as an Exalted Pet. I couldn't agree more. By the end of July, I was proud to unveil Lucy's masterpiece:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTPClToTSI/AAAAAAAAAHk/E7hf3IjWCOY/s320/IMG_4581.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108435520626117922" />
"Queen Lucy", Acrylic on canvas, 16x18, by Natalie Hirshman.

I know, I know, it is heavily inspired by a famous Elizabeth I painting, but hey, it's for my mom, give me a break. And, it has many unique qualities, such as this:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTVsFToTUI/AAAAAAAAAH0/GiTMG_UH5d4/s320/IMG_4583.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108442830660455746" />
And this.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTV-lToTVI/AAAAAAAAAH8/i4p-HYoSTwk/s320/IMG_4581.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108443148488035666" />
And, it's darn funny. I can hear you all chuckling right now, even if you don't know Lucy. For those of you who do, I know you're really falling out of your chair.

My mom says, "Lucy may still be a pill, but she's my pill". Let's all take a page from that book and consider rescue an old soul in need. I believe all souls need a chance and it's never too late to show them the meaning of love.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTQwFToTTI/AAAAAAAAAHs/u8s5RSZvZiE/s320/IMG_0397.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108437401821793586" />
Enjoy your reign, Queen Lucy! Copyright 2007.

Oh, this one was way, way too easy. Everyone's favorite canine crankypants has one major softspot...his beloved stuffed Rhinocerous. This thing has long lost its squeaky, both of his eyes, and I do believe a hanging appendage of sorts, but we don't dare tear this binky away from our dear Derek. Not even for one minute.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuS921ToTFI/AAAAAAAAAF8/9O4nae_iK3c/s200/IMG_2729.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108416627064982610" />
Is that a face of an angel? Of course, it is. Just don't get any closer to the stuffy....

Derek, or Masked Rebel, as he was known on the track, came to us by majority vote of one...our dear Hansel. I saw Derek at our annual GPA Picnic in June of 2004 (that's Greyhound Pets of America, OC/GLA or www.fastfriends.org, just in case you needed a refresher) and he instantly made my heart three sizes too big. Little did I know at the time, that is amongst his finest skills. All alone he sat in the Special Needs section, with a little piece of pink yarn on his collar, declaring his friendliness of the feline variety. I must walk this dog, I thought, but someone had beaten me to the punch...blargh! Thankfully, he was returned and I introduced him to Hansel. Apparently, the two had already met, planning their non-verbal plan of attack....of cuteness. Derek immediately rested his head on Hansel's neck and that's all she wrote.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTAJ1ToTGI/AAAAAAAAAGE/IIbeutCDMjQ/s200/100_0977.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108419152505752674" />
Adopted!

These days Derek enjoys a low-pro lifestyle and relishes his retirement. He's fully on the mend following a slight tumor scare earlier this year, but its removal turned him into a young, spritely pup. At least, for Derek's standards. Despite his love for peace and quiet and lots of cuddles, he does enjoy:

Living on the edge,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTBzlToTHI/AAAAAAAAAGM/CK2iKY-tOUI/s200/IMG_4376.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108420969276918898" />
Hamming it up for his fans,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTCOlToTII/AAAAAAAAAGU/0ZEQtZ23pb8/s200/IMG_3416.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108421433133386882" />
Enjoying a good birthday celebration (although he does not like to reveal his age),
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTCplToTJI/AAAAAAAAAGc/1SZcBjUKw7A/s200/IMG_4025.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108421896989854866" />
And practicing his hypnosis on mommy,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTDTFToTKI/AAAAAAAAAGk/9mc7jgubPjc/s200/CIMG0080.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108422609954426018" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTDflToTLI/AAAAAAAAAGs/HnyNxkcooJY/s200/IMG_0529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108422824702790834" />
Well played, my little Fawn Fabio, well played indeed.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTD3VToTMI/AAAAAAAAAG0/wOR0ELWMSWI/s200/IMG_4403.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108423232724683970" />
We worked into the wee hours of the morn to finish the latest installment of the Exalted Pet Collection, with stellar results, I must say. It just presented itself during execution and I went with it. Check out those baby browns, how else could his soul be so perfectly captured any other way?

So, just as I thought I'd immortalized all of my exalted pets, who pops up but our unexpected addition, Gizmo. We need to acquaint ourselves a little further with our 15 year old rescue, but I've already got a great idea in my mind. So does Princess, but I told her that hers would not be an appropriate idea. She's still warming up to him, as you can tell.

In the meantime, Derek's gives a big thanks to his fans while doing what he does best:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuTGkVToTQI/AAAAAAAAAHU/NyfVlC8wwpU/s320/IMG_4338.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108426204842052866" />
Looks like the heaven's agree. That is none other than the magnificent Mr. Thomas.

Tommy and I have long been best buds:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSuwFToS-I/AAAAAAAAAFE/aBYilBpzUaA/s200/100_0140.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108400018426448866" />
Tommy came home with us after he woo'd us (me) with his charms at the OC Animal Shelter in September 2002. I was still raw following the loss of my beloved Salem just a few weeks prior, but I must admit, he had me from "meow". Thomas knew how to ease my grief with his sweet face, his ear-popping purr, and his mastery of kung-fu. He loved to challenge the laws of graveeteh, jumping off the second floor balcony without a sound (other than my shrieks of terror) or climbing the window screens to silently kamikaze his people on their beds as they lay sleeping, four feet above their heads. He could also give David Blaine a run for his money, proving to be an expert escape artist and opening up patio doors to explore the great unknown. These days, Mr. Thomas defies his own laws of gravity:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSxJVToS_I/AAAAAAAAAFM/nZibLJQRVlc/s200/IMG_3206.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108402651241401330" />
Yep, that's 18 pounds of loving right there, folks. You'd think he was playing with his favorite feather toy, but I'm just giving him his dinner.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSx0lToTAI/AAAAAAAAAFU/lrBYUzwAw5w/s200/IMG_2582.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108403394270743554" />
Thomas also gets his own spot at the head of the Thanksgiving dinner table. He helps me create a holiday menu every year, as we cuddle in bed watching the Food Channel on Sunday mornings. His favorite is Nigella Lawson, because she shares with him his passion for food (and he thinks she's foxy).

So, Princess and I were rummaging through photos which would best exemplify our plump little cherub and came across this one:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSy41ToTBI/AAAAAAAAAFc/_ed-u-02C1o/s200/IMG_3588.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108404566796815378" />
This is Tommy's "Feed Me Mommy" face. Priceless, no? Because he's such a colorful and fun loving spirit, who makes me laugh all day long, I thought I'd celebrate him in brilliant, vibrant complementary shades. Thus we unveil the "Magnificent Mr. Thomas":
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSz-lToTCI/AAAAAAAAAFk/i0I6l5aeY_Y/s320/IMG_4346.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108405765092690978" />
"The Magnificent Mr. Thomas", Acrylic on canvas, 18x24, by Natalie Hirshman. Copyright 2007.

Despite his loyalty to the culinary arts, his greatest loyalty lies with me, his mom. He's the ginger love of my life and I'm so grateful for his companionship. He is a true Exalted Pet.

Mr. Thomas returned the gratitude in kind. His opinion of his masterpiece?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuS0wVToTDI/AAAAAAAAAFs/wE4Y_gtDfX8/s320/IMG_4595.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108406619791182898" />
"I love it, Mom, but does this angle make me look fat?"

I love you just the way you are, Mr. Thomas. xoxoxox

Perfect Gentleman Rule #1: Built-In Tuxedo

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSaNFToSsI/AAAAAAAAAC0/rCs2pNX3xO8/s320/IMG_2852.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108377426898471618" />
Hansel, our dear Pappa, was our first greyhound, as you well know, rescued from Greyhound Pets of America, OC/GLA (www.fastfriends.org). If you haven't visited the website in the last 5 minutes, why not do so now (rather, after you're finished here, that is). He finally came home to us on my birthday in 2003 and literally changed our lives. As with all of our other children, he chose us during our visit to his foster home. Hansel has developed into many amazing things: a wonderful son, a doting brother, a lover of nature, and most of all, a perfect gentleman. Hansel respects his family and home, and asks permission for everything with his soulful brown eyes. His favorite things include:

Long hikes with daddy in Laguna,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSfWFToSxI/AAAAAAAAADc/decwZBmLvb8/s200/IMG_3907.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108383079075433234" />
Wooing the ladies,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSfv1ToSyI/AAAAAAAAADk/MFfyGQRsUCU/s200/IMG_4334.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108383521457064738" />
Being a big brother,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSgFlToSzI/AAAAAAAAADs/UMsPQczxO9w/s200/IMG_0520.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108383895119219506" />
Running,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSh8lToS1I/AAAAAAAAAD8/Fe39ndA5rSU/s200/j.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108385939523652434" />
Pooping

**No Image Available**

(he's even fashioned a celebratory dance afterwards)

But most of all....ice cream.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSgqlToS0I/AAAAAAAAAD0/AE0efzZEdpU/s200/IMG_4160.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108384530774379330" />
The hounds celebrating Hansel's 7th birthday in June...

Upon reflection, I (meaning Princess and I) couldn't think of a more perfect way to immortalize Hansel than with a proud, sophisticated, traditional approach. This is our Hansel, incarnate:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSdLVToStI/AAAAAAAAAC8/-mPUat31k04/s320/IMG_4342.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108380695368583890" />
"Pappa", Acrylic on canvas, 18x24, by Natalie Hirshman. She knew before I of her God-given talent when one evening, I found her patiently perched on a chair in front of the easel, waiting for me to begin my work. She waits there every night after supper, ensuring that every paintstroke is properly executed and all ideas are approved by her, in advance.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSUE1ToSpI/AAAAAAAAACc/kUmpTH9zGm8/s320/000_0076.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108370688094784146" />
Princess can even make a paper bag appear beautiful. Avoid direct eye contact, avoid direct eye contact....

Obviously bestowed with an angelic and maternal instinct, Princess looks over the entire family, even the foster dogs, whom she especially loves to taunt. She's especially drawn to her daddy, known to purr only for him (although I have been blessed from time to time with her melodic hum). My intent was to exemplify her spiritual, ethereal side, as well as to show how much we exalt this magnificent little lady.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSSlFToSnI/AAAAAAAAACM/vr7EBM3b3NM/s200/Snapshot+2007-09-09+17-37-07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108369043122309746" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSSwlToSoI/AAAAAAAAACU/AdIbxQ-Tj4U/s200/Snapshot+2007-09-09+17-38-53.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108369240690805378" />
Her canvas magically transformed itself into a parchment-like, aged piece, with notes of an asian-inspired scroll. To finish it off, I had her daddy pick his favorite characters to honor his favorite little lady. Thus, Angel....I Adore You was finally complete and born to the world. Princess gave her seal of approval by giving her daddy a big kiss. That's right, she gave her DADDY a big kiss. Sigh.

No time to waste, Princess waited patiently the next day at an empty easel. She already had many thoughts on the next project, inspiring a masterpiece of her favorite pup, Hansel.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSWXVToSrI/AAAAAAAAACs/ItCdy2YfPMw/s320/IMG_4105.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108373204945619634" />

The "Big Bang" Theory

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuR2MlToSgI/AAAAAAAAABU/XcIB4c7wbeg/s320/IMG_3740.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108337835889936898" />
"The Davidson Four", 24x36 Acrylic on Canvas, by Natalie Hirshman. Copyright 2007.

So, to answer how this endeavor came into being....well, I would equate it to years and years of ideas and mental images stewing in the little pressure-cooker of my mind until it's inevitable explosion. Late January 2007, I found my dear friend Karri's birthday was quickly approaching and not yet a gift in hand. I got this bright idea to create a painting of her Exalted Pets as an homage to her undying love for them and for being an all-round great mom. Only problem....her birthday was 6 days away. Could I do this? Was this "Painting Impossible"? I've feigned from painting for years...but, I knew the countdown had already begun.

So, how to make this special. Well, our ex-foster, Bunny, was simple. Because of her time in our home (thanks to Greyhound Pets of America, OC/GLA, www.fastfriends.org. I will remind you every post), we knew what a sassy little vixen this hound was. Since her recent adoption, she was still getting to know her new family, our best friends. I'm sure the first thing they taught her was if she were to be a part of this family, she must adopt a sincere love of the San Francisco 49ers. Thus, Bunny is musing the principles of the sport here and wondering if helmets were the football equivalent to wearing muzzles while racing. She decides it must be to keep everyone from biting each other. Naturally.

Harley, their first grey, is a gentle giant. Amongst his favorite interests include, sleeping, laying around, sleeping, OH! and his beloved apples. This smart cookie understands the importance of fiber to his daily diet, gingerly savoring his little gems down to their core. Only fitting for Harley to float amidst a sea of his favorite fruit. Brilliant, two down, two to go.

Then there's Sammy, their proud lion. Sammy proudly prowls through his domain, commanding respect from all with his deep, melodic meows. His jeweled crown suits him best amidst his natural habitat; the proud plains of the Serengetti. That poor, unassuming zebra in the background, a pity what fate may befall him.

Georgie, last but certainly not least, is their little survivor. He was my biggest challenge, for he does enjoy his solitude and my Georgie sightings were limited. What to do? Well, despite his frail appearance, a result of several medical maladies, this is one sweet feline. I bet there's a constant little party happening in that little heart of his, so greatful that he has a family that loves him so. Fantastic!

But, how can we forget little Charlie, who met the rainbow bridge in an untimely fashion. He must not be forgotten, so he'll finish the piece by signing my name for me in yarn.

Now, only to reunite that brush to finertips....shudder.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuR8UlToShI/AAAAAAAAABc/Ef0rduFaGMk/s320/IMG_3611.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108344570398657042" />
This is Friday morning, the day of reveal. You'll notice it is light outside. You may assume from this fact that I've been parked there since the night before. You would be correct. 144 hours from point of inception, my work was complete. I felt accomplished, proud, and excited (and tired). Dare I say, confident! And tired. This could be a start of something BIG. The rusty cogs in my head began churning once more....

So, how did the big reveal go?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuSDJVToSjI/AAAAAAAAABs/ccRKIn5_CAk/s200/thumb_Resized0009.JPG.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108352073706523186" />
I'd say it was a success.

Karri likes to take credit for being the cause of jumpstarting my purpose and I would have to say she's right. Thanks, Karri, for kicking my butt and pushing me to follow my dreams.

Cheers!

Allow Myself to Introduce....Myself.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRwqlToSZI/AAAAAAAAAAc/rbE4TH4GokI/s320/IMG_4403.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108331754216245650" />
There are two things I love most in this world. My family and my painting. Therefore, it seems quizzical that it took so long for me to pursue this endeavor. Better late than never, I suppose!

My name is Natalie Hirshman and I am a lifelong lover of all animals, big and small (arachnids are another story, but I'm working on that). I've been an artist as long as I can remember, developing my craft as a result of a mix of formal training and self-taught techniques. For those of you who know me well will roll their eyes, knowing that I am quite stubborn, so I have to admit it's a bit more of a matter of personal artistic exploration, as opposed to rules. I feel adamant that art comes alive when it is developed purely from the heart, the mind, and spirit. Although I can encounter a roadblock or twenty following this path, I'm never disappointed at what new surprises and revelations appear from each new piece. My goal is to capture the spirit of each subject, uniquely and wholly (and hopefully with a couple of giggles).

Just because my work is special, doesn't mean it can't be funny, too. I mean, really, who else makes you laugh after the worst day ever? That's right. Your Exalted Pet.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRxOlToSaI/AAAAAAAAAAk/t4uPvpInWZY/s320/CIMG0626.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108332372691536290" />
Speaking of exalted pets, these are my amazing sons, Hansel and Derek. Yes, from Zoolander. We rescued these amazing supermodel hounds from Greyhound Pets of America, OC/GLA almost 4 years ago now. We encourage you to help us promote this amazing cause by regularly visiting www.fastfriends.org. The hounds thank you and an addition to your household will change their lives forever, as well as yours. It sure did mine.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRx7FToSbI/AAAAAAAAAAs/NKgBTYYOyI0/s320/100_1305.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108333137195714994" />
Hansel and Derek have been dubbed the Dangerous Duo, Batman and Robin, Ebony and Ivory, but most importantly, best friends. They have a website of their own: www.mugatusdogs.blogspot.com. Naturally. You will see them make regular appearances on this site, considering they were my first models. Again, naturally.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRyPlToScI/AAAAAAAAAA0/pbJaShiF7GM/s320/100_0121.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108333489383033282" />
This is Thomas and Princess. These two beauties chose us while visiting the OC Animal Shelter 5 years ago and have been an irreplacable staple in our lives. Their interests include eating, sleeping, purring, and making the house beautiful with their presence. Oh, they are also my muses; as you can see from the first photo. One or the other or both always watch me paint at a chair to my right and give me advice, critique and inspiration. Probably the only critique I listen to.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRyllToSdI/AAAAAAAAAA8/OuqPj8rCLBg/s320/IMG_4013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108333867340155346" />
And this little toughie is Gizmo. He came to us unexpectedly in June, after being abandoned for months by his original owner at our vet. Of course, he came home with us. Can you believe this silver fox is 15 years young? I know. We turn out some charming pets, we do. After a couple days of mutual disgust, curiosity literally killed my cats and a union between the three was inevitable. Gizzie is still not a fan of the dogs, but lately he's made brave journeys from the comfort of his sunny guest bedroom to the downstairs, in his quest to investigate the unknown. Little Gizmoto has discovered that the world, indeed, is not flat; it is, rather, two stories tall.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRy4FToSeI/AAAAAAAAABE/LAcN1EMOSTY/s320/IMG_3751.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108334185167735266" />
And this handsome devil is my super-hubby of four years, Ben. Although not a pet of mine (some may consider that statement debatable), he has given me unconditional support with this crazy ride I've chosen to take. He's a great dad, too. We love you, Dad! Woof! Meow!

So, you wonder how I came about Exalted Pets and why it took me so darn long? Well, the first answer you will find in the next post. The second, well, there's no excuse there, nes pas? Some would call it artist's block, I would call it "perfectionist" syndrome, but all it was really was facing my fears and just deciding to jump in and go for it. Ah, I feel much better now.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/RuRzLVToSfI/AAAAAAAAABM/oD4EjIpJ79k/s320/IMG_4099.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108334515880217074" />
I hope you enjoy my work and laugh as much as I do! Come back often, for Princess has a lot of "musing" still to do! Cheers!

Natalie

So....You Wanna Piece of ME?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DfFq7dSa_OE/Ru9OQBnnjgI/AAAAAAAAAKM/rQVokMEcQ6U/s320/IMG_3631.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111390139308281346" />
Of course you do! And it would be my pleasure! That's what I hope to have the opportunity to do, to make you smile and possibly cry a bit (don't worry, I won't tell) with a unique and memorable representation of your Exalted Pets. My kids and their friends really served as wonderful models, nes pas? Well, let's pivot that easel towards your Exalted Pet and see what we can compose for them to show them the respect they deserve!

Let the ordering begin, shall we? But, how?

Email me! Let's get to know each other and let's shoot the dog poop a bit. Include your name and your email. Here's mine!
natalie.hirshman@gmail.com .
Gush. Tell me about your pet and your relationship with him or her (or them!) Sure, names and ages are essential, but what makes them special, what makes you laugh, what is it that "je ne se quoi" about your faithful child? No, really, I'm asking you what that may be...
Now that we're such good friends... Next, let me know what size you're thinking of, if you have a preferred style or color scheme, and where you envision your masterpiece to be displayed in all it's glory (hey, why don't you go nuts and take a picture of that area, too, to help me). If you don't have a fixed preference, we'll bounce around a few ideas together or maybe we won't, if you'd prefer a surprise! Also, tell me if you are working around a budget, that will help as well. Where there is a will, there is a way!
Pupparazzi, Pupparazzi!Email me some photos, as many as you want...good ones, though! Not one running around at dog park 100 yards away, for example. Think about ones with expressions or poses that you love, good close-up detail, defining marks, favorite toys, the like. If I need further clarification, trust me, I know where to find you. You may send me photos via snailmail as well, if you prefer. Just let me know and I'll furnish you with a mailing address.

From there you will be presented with these fun and fabulous offers:

I'll show you the money. And some schematics. The quote will include insured expedited shipping, handling, materials, as well as 25% of the total cost will be donated to the rescue organization of your choice. I'm a giver, I know you are, too. Can you imagine how thankful they'll be? Consider it now: "Hey there, Rescue Group of Choice, here's a bunch of money to support the amazingly great job you do. Love, Us". I know. Awesome.

**If you don't have a preference, three guesses which organization your generous donation will go to. Puh-lease. I'll give you three hints: 1. G, 2. P, 3. A....
Quotes will consider several factors: size, complexity of subject and technique, and estimated lead time. To give you an idea of what the pieces are worth on the website:

"The Davidson Four", Acrylic on Canvas, 24"x36" $850.00
"Angel....I Adore you", Acrylic and Acrylic Medium, "18"x36" $450.00
"Pappa", Acrylic on Canvas, 18"x24" $450.00
"The Magnificent Mr. Thomas", Acrylic on Canvas, 18"x24" $325.00
"Dream a Little Dream of....Rhinos", Acrylic on Canvas, 18"x24"$650.00
"Exalted Buckley", Acrylic on Canvas, 16"x18" $275.00
"Queen Lucy", Acrylic on Canvas, 16"x18" $550.00
"Little Buddha", Acrylic and Gold Leaf, 12"x16" $775.00
"Don't Feed Him After Midnight", Acrylic on Canvas, 12"x16" $350.00
"Lily and Louie", Acrylic on Canvas, 12"x16", price available upon request. Still a surprise to the recipient....

"The Twelve Greys of Christmas", Acrylic on Canvas, 4"x5" ea. $75.00. $900.00, sold as set only. $225.- donation to GPA.

*Again, costs would include shipping, handling, materials, as well as 25% donated to an animal rescue of your choice, upon completion of project. Those little fellas in need require all the help we can give them.

Once we've come to an agreement, I will send you an order confirmation and invoice via PayPal (or regular mail), so that we may complete payment and embark on our magical journey. That way, you may take comfort in knowing our transaction is fully secure, as well as having multiple payment method options at your disposal...credit card or electronic check, money orders or personal check. That's what I do for you. You're welcome.

Depending upon the scope of the project, your masterpiece will find its way to your home and into your excited little fingers within 14 days.

Of course, your satisfaction is an essential ingredient to the success of this crusade! Please refer to my FAQ list below, which reflects everything I can possibly think of that would be of interest to you (until 5 minutes from now, when I think of something I missed):

FAQ's:

Do you offer gift certificates? Why, yes I do! I'm so honored that you would consider bestowing your loved one and Owner of Exalted Pet with something so special! Good for you, you Mensch. Good. For. You. Email me your request, including your contact info, your recipient's contact info, denomination and message. Gift certificates are available in any denomination and are available in hard copy, therefore sent via snailmail. If I ever figure it out online, you'll be the first to know! At least this way, it looks all pretty and gift wrapped and makes you look like a supah-star. A hip, tasteful, tragically sophisticated "supah-stah", I might add.

Wow! I got one of your amazing gift certificates! How do I redeem this little wonder ASAP? Well, congratulations! I see you're as excited as I am! When you're ready to get started, contact me and let me know that you have received your gift certificate. We'll begin the process in the same manner listed above until your purchase agreement is finalized and the certificate may be applied to your total.

What kind of proofs would you be able to provide me with? Depending on what you're looking for, I will furnish you with a detailed explanation and preliminary sketch of what we're looking at. More will be submitted to you, if we're playing with style options or budget options. Think of it like a mock-up of the final piece (or pieces). We'll pull and tug at that thing as long as you wish until you give me a full paws up.

Are the portraits stretched? Yes. They will be ready to hang as is, or ready for local framer, depending on your preference! All canvases consist of high-quality 10 oz. canvas, gallery wrapped (meaning it's finished on all sides) on 1 1/2" solid pine stretcher bars. Large sizes will boast additional stability support.

Would you consider painting on something other than a traditional canvas? Sure, I'd say anything is possible, let's chat! I draw the line at body art, however, on you or your pet. That's just weird. Allow me to refer you to your local tattoo parlor as an alternative, which in itself, is totally awesome, by the way (for you, NOT your pet).

Do you paint in other mediums than acrylic? Yeah, I'm kind of awesome that way. I will warn you, watercolors are NOT my forte, but I'm working on that. I actually adore oil color, but I cannot commit to the lead times that would result in substantial delays while it cures, even with advanced drying techniques of the modern stone age. If you're truly pining for something specific and these minor adjustments in terms don't get your feathers in a ruffle, don't hold back and tell me what you want! Don't be shy! I am here for you. Anything is possible! Well, almost (see prior question).

Would you consider painting other "Exalted" things? Say, "Exalted" (Human) Children? Hey, family is family, how could I say no to that! Send it all over as usual and I would be honored to exalt your entire brood.

When is payment due? Payment will be due upon receipt of order confirmation and invoice. Your masterpiece will begin upon receipt of your payment via PayPal.

PayPal? What the heck is that? What's wrong with a good old-fashioned checkbook! Pfft! Nothing at all, my fine friend, nothing at all! Feel free to mail in a check or money order upon completion of your purchase order (I just have to wait for it to clear, but I will give you a minute-by-minute, play-by-play synopsis until it does). Upon confirmation, we'll do a small dance to the art-gods to celebrate your pet and get started right away!

Is full payment due?Well, yes. As much as I wish I could, I don't work for free, folks. While I love to dance and sing and toss my hard-earned dollars around in the support of non-profits, girlfriend has to run a profitable gig here in order to be able to do that, capiche? And did you ever wonder why they call us lunatics "starving artists"? These materials don't come cheap, my friend! Oh, no, only the finest for YOU! No, really, I won't disappoint you. That's one thing I can be serious about.

Do you offer framing services? Unfortunately, I must say no to this one. I did consider it for a while, but for me, finalizing a work of art is a very personal process with limitless options and budget considerations. I will leave that special touch for you and your professional framer.

Can I mail in my photos? You can do whatever you want, Love, just email me and I'll send you an appropriate mailing address.

Can I submit a photograph of my Exalted Pet that was taken professionally? Ummmmm.....let's not go there, only because a photographer's art is as personal as my own....it's also copyrighted, just like my own. If there's no other option available, we can put on our most "Pretty, Pretty Please" faces that our beloved pets have taught us all these years and see if your photographer would consider a copyright release. It's the right thing to do. We can't have any bad karma in our pet portraits now!

Aaargh! I'm so anxious! Can I get a "sneak preview" during execution? Actually, unless you or your loved one want to be fully surprised upon unveiling, I would love to show you a sneak preview just prior to completion. That way, if there's something a little off to you ("Um, Fluffy's eyes are green...") or you would like to see a last minute revision ("Hey, can we add a chinese proverb or a small halo over Fluffy's head?"), we can discuss that prior to packaging. Keep it within reason, though, folks. Remember what we so carefully agreed to, in detail, PRIOR to execution? Yeah, we're kinda going with that! Please, people! I'm crazy enough as it is!

Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? How 'bout now? Depending on the scope and scale of your masterpiece, a normal lead time will run around 14 days, for the sizes listed above. Now, perhaps you've asked for a billboard-sized canvas to display in your backyard that is visible from the freeway, complete with spotlighting and a running track of the theme from "Rocky"? Yeah, might be a smidge longer. We'll talk.

How will you ship my precious cargo? I will ship UPS overnight to you with delivery and signature confirmation, insurance included....UNLESS, you have a preferred method of shipping. As long as we can insure and package to our collectively immeasurably high standards, I cater to you. There will be no shortage of packing standards, trust me. This painting is my baby too, you know, so rest assured it will be everything shy of bullet-proof.

Will you consider shipping internationally? "Ja!" "Si!" "Oui!" (yeah, that' s all I know for now). I will have to furnish you with a separate quote on shipping costs, but we can discuss various carriers and delivery methods during our consulting phase.

Um, Nat....the dog literally ATE my painting. Problems, issues, concerns? Let's work those out together, shall we? I take pride in my work and really honor my subjects, as well as their owners (that means you). Let's respect and retain an open forum of communication and understanding. Let's grab a cup of coffee, sit down, and tawk. I'm confident we'll find a way to hug it out.

Um, Nat....Fluffy LOVES her painting! OMG, how can we thank you enough! Submit a testimonial! I definitely need to be certain that you're super satisfied with your new work of art and I'd love nothing more than to add a post to my site heralding you and YOUR Exalted Pets!

So, after diligently studying and coveting your terms and conditions, it's safe to assume the copyright to my original artwork remains with you? Amazing, my little grasshopper. I've taught you well. Besides, it's the law, no argument there. It's science.

Did I forget anything? Let me know! Email me and I'll add it to the FAQ's (and I won't forget to answer you either, naturally).

Thank you so much for your interest and support! I'm so grateful to share this experience with you!

Cheers! This site is still under construction, where you'll soon learn about my newest and favorite masterpieces to honor the most important factors in our lives. In the next few days you'll find a whole new world of portraying our beloved pets as iconolasts, as they should be. Join me in my quest to bestow the respect these amazing sprits have always deserved, long overdue. Now is the generation of the "Exalted Pet!"
